Matt give his honest review – As you will see with the video I had to do a few cuts in order to shorten the video basically due to the fact that the beer was a huge 22 oz. Bomber, and I really don’t do these beers too often.
So, this is Captain’s Sig Rogue Northwestern Ale. As many of you may know Captain Sig is one of the captains on The Deadliest Catch, and he works with his two brothers on the boat, and yada yada yada. For the most part I’m a huge fan of Rogue beers mainly for their variety, availability, and their labels which are all pretty funny and give you a general idea of what the beer is going to be link based on the label. As many of you may know I am a huge fan of beer labels and the artwork on the bottles, for me the beer art is a huge selling point.
As far as the beer goes, it poured very smooth and was actually a lot lighter than I expected. The beer was rather red and murky, and I was expecting something darker. The initial smell was pleasant with slight dark chocolate hints and pine.
The taste was extremely hoppy with undertones of dark chocolate and pine. I can take hoppy in very limited amounts and it was touch getting through this bomber with so much bitterness.
I have to give this beer a thumbs down mainly based on my taste and the sheer hoppiness of this brew. I was thinking it was going to be a little sweeter with the chocolate malt, but it was very so slight. If your a fan of hoppy, you will like this as its more of a traditional IPA, even though its not advertised as such. Hey, if your a fan of The Deadliest Catch pick it up too, as all proceeds of the beer go to the Fishermen Fund. See the Rogue website for more detials:
